The Scarabian Republic was a fictional nation that resided within the Activeworlds universe as well as a non-fictional club organization that was responsible for the development of SW City from 2002 to 2010.

Player towns in the Activeworlds app could join the Scarabian Republic if they adopted the Republic's Charter or their own charter, provided it was approved by the Scarabian Board of Administrators.

The Scarabian Republic's role was to strengthen each other's communities by sharing resources and cross-promoting one another.

It was replaced by SW City Productions in 2010.

Membership

Player towns that were interested in joining the Republic had to be organized under some form of government, preferably a charter which clearly defined how things in the town were ran. They could write their own charter or adapt to the existing Scarabian Republic Charter.

In order to join, a leader from the community had to post an application on the Republic board within the SW City Forum. This application had to include the player town name, location, a list VIPs of the community and their role, a description of the city, and a copy of the charter under which it ran.

Cities that joined the Scarabian Republic were typically integrated into the Scarabian community. Members from each player town were known to participate in events and build projects together in an effort to build each other's communities up.

Player towns that joined the Scarabian Republic could have their own community forum within the SW City Forum if they desired.

Active Player Towns

There were four active player towns when the Scarabian Republic ended.

Inactive Player Towns

Five other cities were once members but were removed or left prior to 2010. These were:

  • Oakdale: Joined in January, 2007, left due to abandonment.
  • Moonlight Heights: Joined December 2007, left in February 2009 due to abandonment.
  • New Arklay City: Left republic in January 2007 due to most staff members moving on.
  • Hydrogen City: Joined and left in 2006 due to abandonment.
  • Yeti City
